Tekniker joins the Association of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor
The technology centre reinforces its commitment towards hydrogen by joining BH2C

The technology centre has joined the Association of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C) within the framework of an initiative whose aim is to establish a strategic ecosystem and carry out research projects throughout the entire value chain of hydrogen to make further progress in terms of decarbonising energy.

The Association of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C) was established earlier this year 2021 to set up a strategic private-public ecosystem to carry out research projects throughout the entire value chain of hydrogen and achieved higher degrees of decarbonisation with regard to energy, mobility and other sectors.

Tekniker, an organisation characterised by an extensive experience in terms of R&D&I actions applied, for example, to the energy market, has recently joined the association to offer its capabilities with regard to generation, transport, storage and use of hydrogen.

More specifically, and as regards generation, Tekniker will offer its expertise related to development PEM (Protonic Exchange Membrane) electrolysers that maximise the efficiency, service life and reliability of systems used to produce hydrogen and also reduce manufacturing costs.

The technology centre will also support the association by sharing its knowledge on how these systems can be integrated with renewables by optimising controllers at wind farms and PV plants, developing DC/DC and AC/DC converters to couple electrolysers and renewable plants and designing control algorithms to be integrated in grids.

On the other hand, and as regards storage and transport, Tekniker will provide its know-how on how to develop and characterise materials for high pressure hydrogen tanks, injection into the grid, transportation and on how sensors are to be developed and integrated.

As regards mobility applications, Tekniker designs customised converters for traction, control algorithms, internal and vehicle-to-vehicle communications and recharging infrastructures featuring on-site and centralised generation systems.

The technology centre is also involved in several other projects concerning the technological development of hydrogen according to the following three lines of action: generation using PEM electrolysers, characterisation of material degradation produced by hydrogen and integration with renewables, specifically photovoltaic power.

The fact of becoming a member of this association, an outstanding reference in Spain and a leader on an international scale in the area of hydrogen technology, has intensified Tekniker’s commitment towards technologies associated with what has nowadays become a key vector for energy transition.

The project of the Association of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor has been shortlisted as an IPCEI initiative (Important Projects of Common European Interest) by the European Commission.
