This incorporation constitutes a qualitative leap forward for the Basque centre, which is being incorporated into an optimum framework so that it can contribute value to companies and drive forward the activity and technological level of industry in the Lower Deba area.
The Eibar Technology Pole, comprising IK4-TEKNIKER’s new facilities and two additional plots belonging to the industrial land management authority (Sprilur) of the Government of the Basque Autonomous Community, will be incorporated into the structure of the Technology Park of Donostia-San Sebastian.
The incorporation was approved by the Board of Directors of the Technology Park of Donostia-San Sebastian after the promoters of the Eibar Technology Pole -Eibar Town Council and IK4-TEKNIKER- had submitted a formal application in July.
This incorporation will make available a top technology and business space in the Lower Deba area, where cutting-edge research and knowledge development will take place to develop high added-value, in-house products with an international calling. Having the “Technology Park" stamp is very important when establishing the minimum scientific and technological level that needs to be met by the companies, Business R+D units, etc. that wish to set up in this space.
Furthermore, the incorporation of the space where the IK4-TEKNIKER R+D centre is already up and running will have a considerable impact on its brand image, because by joining a structure in the front line of innovation, it will be part of networks and be encouraging technology and knowledge transfer so that it can go on being the benchmark of excellence in the setting-up and development of technologically advanced enterprises. So the Eibar centre will be joining an optimum framework for contributing towards increasing the competitive edge of companies and giving value to society.
The Technology Park of Donostia-San Sebastian has a group of 76 enterprises, R+D centres and universities employing over 3,000 people, 49% of whom are involved in research and development work. This high, technological profile ensures the best environment for R+D+i activity applied to companies which IK4-TEKNIKER is engaged in, and facilitates its transfer of knowledge to companies so they can develop in-house, high added value products. Likewise, the Eibar centre will be able to benefit from a cutting-edge communications structure, the promotion of events, organising of conferences and the encouraging of networking.
Alongside this, the extending of the Technology Park of Donostia-San Sebastian to Eibar constitutes a qualitative leap for the economic base of the Lower Deba area, which is thus emerging as a new node on the Basque technology map. Its incorporation into a leading technology space will signify a considerable incentive for local companies. And right at the heart of this new space will be IK4-TEKNIKER, whose new facilities are the flagship of the new space, and its research activity the driving force of R+D+i in the area.
