Atten2 launches reach out to new markets

An expansion strategy geared towards new industrial sectors

The Eibar-based company Atten2, specialised in developing online optical sensors used to measure industrial fluids and lubricants, is currently involved in an expansion strategy focused on new industrial sectors.

Atten2, a company based in Gipuzkoa, designs and manufactures high performance sensors that monitor critical equipment components by measuring lubricating oils. This innovative know-how makes it possible to diagnose potential failures in very early stages and thus reduce operating risks.

This micro company, established in 2012, initially focused successfully on the wind power business in the field of wind turbine fluid monitoring. The company made a strategic choice based on this sector that served to significantly boost their technological capabilities and allowed them to address new markets and applications.

Thanks to a successful track record in the wind power sector, it was only last year when the management decided to focus on new options and deal with the challenge of validating their know-how in areas of significant potential connected to, amongst others, the automotive and robotics sectors. Experience has shown that Atten2 sensors are highly sensitive to changes in operating conditions. Thanks to this approach, machine performance can be monitored in terms of wear patterns and failure modes.

The new growth strategy has helped to expand the company’s customer base and has given rise to numerous opportunities as regards consolidating a long-term and sustainable business model.

This diversification process has opened the door to a number of new countries and markets. Internationally renown companies in the automotive or energy sectors have already started to incorporate Atten2 know-how to their manufacturing processes.

The international projection of this young company was given additional support by two capital enlargements carried out in 2015 and 2016 that opened the doors to other major corporations such as Iberdrola, CDTI (the Centre for Industrial Technological Development) and Bigarren Aukera that joined the Atten2 shareholder base. In fact, this provided the level of support required to address the challenge of having to deal with new business units.

OilWear 2.0

The expansion of Atten2 into new sectors coincides with the fact that the company is currently focusing on developing an enhanced version of its star product called OilWear. It is a sensoring device that features state-of-the-art know-how and outstrips its predecessor thanks to improvements made in terms of measuring power and processing speed. System robustness has also been enhanced and optimised.

OilWear 2.0 has been developed based on market requirements and has resulted from the many business opportunities linked to sensor know-how.

This solution represents the Atten2 approach in terms of continuous improvement and also offers proof of how this organisation is capable of carrying out technological R&D projects.
