Technology for human-robot interaction

A robot guide capable of interacting naturally with humans

IK4-TEKNIKER is developing a robot guide capable of interacting with humans by means of various mechanisms like voice synthesis, a touch screen and lights.

Robots are starting to be incorporated into environments not specially adapted to their features, unknown in advance, continually changing and with significant interaction with humans.

Nowadays, it is not strange to find them in hospitals, museums and even in our own homes, where they help us with the domestic chores.

That is why IK4-TEKNIKER is working actively to develop innovative solutions applied to service robotics with special attention devoted to key aspects like human-robot interaction.

In its latest project on service robotics involving a robot guide, IK4-TEKNIKER has been very much aware of this concept, since the robot is designed to interact naturally with humans by detecting their presence and adapting its own behaviour according to the situation.

The robot offers multimodal interaction mechanisms by combining various elements.

It lights up in different colours so that each of its possible states can be easily interpreted. For this purpose the robot has been fitted with two LED matrices, the aim of which is to simulate eyes, and a set of LEDS at the bottom of the base marking its aura.

By means of voice synthesis, the robot provides a set of pre-specified messages depending on the different circumstances, and through the human detection functionality, the robot interacts when it detects the presence of a person.
